It is inevitable that businesses and individuals will need to replace computers at some point.
Barring equipment failure; software and user requirements change. Additionally with the growing advances in technology hardware becomes increasingly efficient making replacement still worthwhile.
We are aware, however, that nothing comes for free and these new systems carry a carbon cost. Although we cannot totally mitigate this cost, we can have a go!
We have decided to work with more:trees to help offset the carbon cost of running a PC. Using the CO2 emission factor taken from the government’s Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (2018) and average PC power consumption values, we have calculated the average carbon cost of the electricity required to run a PC in an office environment.
For every PC that we sell, we will plant three trees (that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development goals). Although we know that these trees can only sequester the required amount of carbon dioxide once they are fully grown, the small steps that we take now will make a big impact in the future.
